Providence Language Schools & Programs

Providence is home to three schools offering foreign language degree programs. Brown University offers programs in bilingual education, classical languages, foreign languages, French, German, Greek, Italian, Latin, linguistics, Portuguese, Russian, Slavic languages and Spanish. Providence College and Rhode Island College both also offer a variety of language programs.

Why Providence is a Great Place to Study Language

Providence has an increasingly diverse population. One out of five people in Providence speaks another language at home. About 6% of the population of Providence has limited English proficiency. The biggest need for interpreters and translators in this city is for the Spanish, Portuguese and Laotian languages.
